Fans tuned into the Summer Game Fest 2023 livestream were treated to their first glimpse of Netflix’s The Witcher: Season Three. The gritty, bloody, action-packed trailer can be viewed below via Netflix’s official YouTube channel.

The Witcher: Season Three‘s trailer features all the staples of the Witcher franchise; monsters, sorcery, fancy swordplay, dim and gloomy lighting, and Geralt being a total dad.

Inspired by Time of Contempt, the second entry in Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher book saga, Geralt (Henry Cavill) and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) will be tried and tested as they vow to protect Ciri (Anya Chalotra) from an entire continent’s wrath — and from herself.

The third season of Netflix’s adaptation will focus on Geralt morphing into the character fans of the video games are used to. While appearing apolitical, apathetic, and reserved in previous seasons, Geralt is forced to open up and adapt now that destiny has united him with the most important figures he’ll ever meet.

Will Geralt’s happy little family unit last? Definitely not; this is The Witcher we’re talking about. Though Ciri, Yennefer, and Geralt’s chemistry in Season Two has us excited for what this upcoming season has to offer.

When Does The Witcher Season Three Release?

The Witcher Season Three is split into two parts to be released a month apart. The Witcher Season Three Volume One debuts exclusively on Netflix on June 29, 2023. Volume 2 is set for July 27.

Season Three marks Cavill’s exit from the show after refusing to renew his contract with Netflix. This doesn’t mark the end of the White Wolf, however, as Liam Hemsworth will take on the mantle of Geralt from Season Four onwards.

Fans of the famed Superman actor can expect to see Cavill in Amazon’s upcoming Warhammer 40,000 series as both a star and executive producer—a perfect fit, considering Cavill’s passion and enthusiasm for the franchise.

Summer Game Fest also finally revealed the release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, a Collector’s Edition, and an in-depth look at Mortal Kombat 1, which steers the franchise in a new direction.
