Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – How to Change Difficulty

Can you make Sekiro easier?

by Kyle Hanson

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a very tough game. Any time you play a challenging title you almost certainly ask yourself if there are difficulty settings you can change. Nothing comes up at the beginning, so is there a way to do it? Kind of, actually. Here’s how to change difficulty in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

How to Change Difficulty

Here’s the thing, if you’re reading this you probably want to make Sekiro easier. Whether it’s the random enemies strewn about the map, all of which can kill you in just a couple of hits. Or it’s the bosses who can definitely kill you in a few hits and sometimes can take you out in just one. Every corner of Sekiro is populated with enemies who can murder you in just a split second of poor focus. So you probably want to switch the game from ultra-hard to normal or even easy. That’s not possible, sadly.

What is possible is making the game harder. Yes, seriously. The only way to change difficulty in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is to make the game even more difficult. How do you do this? Head to Senpou Temple area, back to the bridge where you battled the Armored Warrior. Back toward the entrance there’s a plateau full of fans. Look off the edge toward the bridge and down to see a cliff you can grab onto way below. There may be a different way to this spot, but jumping off and grabbing this is the easiest I found.

Follow this path, wall jumping your way up the parallel ledges, then through the small building and you’ll come upon the Demon Bell. Reading the message gives you a very ominous warning, and for good reason. Ring this bell and you’ll receive the Bell Demon. Carrying around this guy with you will make enemies more difficult to defeat, but the tradeoff is they will drop better loot. Luckily you can reverse this very easily. Just open your inventory, find the Bell Demon and “use” it to make him go away without any negative consequences. What a kind ethereal hellspawn.

So that’s how to change difficulty in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Not the answer you were probably looking for, but another example of Sekiro defying expectations.
