Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – What to do with Snake Hearts

Dried and Fresh Serpent Viscera are leaving many players confused

by Kyle Hanson

As you pick up items throughout Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice you often find yourself wondering what they’re used for. Many are superfluous, letting you use them for various effects or NPC quests that aren’t too important to the story. Others are much more significant, including the Snake Heart you get after killing the Giant Snake. The game hands you this item, but doesn’t tell you what it can do. Here’s what to do with Snake Hearts in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

What to do with Snake Hearts

The answer actually comes to you near the end of the game. The Snake Hearts or Serpent Viscera, comes in two forms. A Dried Serpent Viscera and Fresh Serpent Viscera. Both are required to receive the optional ending of the game, so be sure to find them along the way. Once you have them, you need to hold onto them until you’ve reached the Inner Sanctum, an area that is unlocked after beating the Folding Screen Monkeys.

Even after you beat them, you aren’t ready to use them. At the Inner Sanctum you meet the Divine Child of Rejuvenation. She will offer you Rice, which is useful in a number of ways. After accepting and consuming the White Rice a few times, and completing certain objectives she will request the Snake Hearts from you. If she doesn’t just keep playing through the game, checking in frequently and getting Rice from her. The community is still trying to understand the whole endgame for Sekiro.

Handing them over will put you on the path to Sekiro’s optional and better ending. As I said, this all comes together the further you get into the game and the closer to the important decisions you are. While this explains what to do with Snake Hearts in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, you’ll still need to work through a lot of things before you can actually use them.
